• The authors placed the Hughes Creek Shale in the Permian, but more recent data indicates that it is late Carboniferous.

Environment/lithology: marine; limestone and shale

• Unit B of the Hughes Creek consists of alternating beds of shales and limestones. The specific lithology of this collection is unknown, but is more likely limestone than shale.
