Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified packstone

• Light-coloured calcareous band of a soft crumbling nature when first dug up, but it becomes quite hard on exposure to the atmosphere. The upper part of it contains an immense number of minute marine shells, the majority of which are broken in pieces.
