Environment/lithology: marine; lithified siltstone and lithified mudstone

• The Arthurton facies approached those of normal shelf carbonates so common in the Northern Hemisphere, with quiet conditions of steady accumulation of silt and calcilutite, interrupted by brief standstills.
• As a rule the sediment consists of calcareous siltstone and mustone, locally skeletal micrites, with numerous atomodesmid prisms, interleaved with fenestellid Bryozoa to varying degrees.
