Where: Germany (49.6° N, 11.5° E: paleocoordinates 0.7° S, 18.6° E)

When: Heiligenwald Formation, Westphalian C (314.6 - 309.8 Ma)

• Saarbrücker Schichten

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; blue shale

• Saar-Nahe basin; Half-graben generated by extension on South Hunsruck bounding fault, but with some component of dextral strike-slip transtension in an intermontane setting following the Variscan orogeny. "Coal seams from this area are called "limnic coals" are were deposited in intra-continental lakes." (personal comm. Jan-Michael Ilger).
• bluish shale
