When: Santa Juana Formation, Carnian (237.0 - 228.0 Ma)

• Assigned a Carnian age based on paleoflora and Nielsen (in press) by Gallego et al. (2005), but others have proposed Upper Carnian/Lower Norian (based on marine molluscs) or Upper Carnian to Lower Rhaetian (also on paleoflora).

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; lithified, black mudstone

• Rivers, lakes, playas and alluvial fans; black mudstones interpreted as lake deposits.

Size class: mesofossils

Preservation: mold/impression
