• "Mittleres Obercarbon" according to Handlirsch. An ironstone nodule horizon containing arthropods occurs in the Middle Coal Measures (Westphalian B) near Kilmarnock, 13 miles NNE of Ayr ("Greenhill Quarry"), so the holotype of Lithomantis carbonarius is likely to be of this age. (Ross, 2010).

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified, nodular, sideritic shale
