Also known as Saint Gérand le Puy

Where: Auvergne, France (46.3° N, 3.5° E: paleocoordinates 46.2° N, 1.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: MN 2 mammal zone, Aquitanian (23.0 - 20.4 Ma)

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sediments

• The deposits of St-Gérand-le-Puy are part of the infill of the Limagne Basin, a rift basin the origin of which is related to the alpine orogeny. Sedimentation took place "under more or less humid" climatic conditions (DePietri et al., 2011).

•Original environment entry >>marine indet.<< has been changed accordingly. (TL)

• The deposits of St-Gérand-le-Puy generally consist of calcareous sediments of fluvial and limnic origin (see, e.g., DePietri et al., 2011, J. Vert. Paleont. 31(4)).
