South side of Alsea Bay (Oligocene of the United States)

Where: Lincoln County, Oregon (44.4° N, 124.1° W: paleocoordinates 44.1° N, 113.2° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Alsea Formation, Rupelian (33.9 - 28.1 Ma)

• Mapped as the Alsea Formation. Formation contains mollusks of the "Lincoln" stage throughout most of the unit ("Blakeley" stage mollusks in the uppermost 340 m) and is correlated with the earliest Oligocene C12n-C13r chrons (Prothero et al., 2012). Wells et al. (2014) correlated the unit with the Keasey and Lincoln Creek Formations and reported a U-Pb age of 34.6 Ma from the unit, suggesting that the basal part is latest Eocene.
