Boro-Nuruu (Outcrop 239/5) (Cretaceous of Mongolia)

Also known as PIN collection 3560

Where: Govi-Altai, Mongolia (46.3° N, 93.8° E: paleocoordinates 46.0° N, 93.6° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Gurvan-Eren Formation, Aptian (125.0 - 113.0 Ma)

• The deposits are divided into three strata: 1) pribortovyh psephites of red, 2) the thickness of yellow sandstone, 3) cyclic fine-clastic strata and mostly gray-colored thin-bedded deposits, and 4) interbedded sandstone and yellow predominantly red-brown siltstone.

•The first sequence consists of brown konglomeratobrekchy the size of debris 3-30 cm, cement yellow-brown calcareous sandstone. Exposed only to the upper part of the column capacity of more than 50 meters further lies interbedded calcareous thick yellow or yellow-gray fine-grained weakly cemented sandstone with a mixture of crushed stone, sandstone power up to 35 m It is replaced by interbedded yellow-gray fine-grained sandstone and gray sandy siltstone aleuropelites, power packs of about 50 m concludes cut yellow sandstones interbedded with yellow-gray, gray siltstone and krasnoburymi capacity of about 100 m Completion section are not exposed.

•In siltstones cyclic sequences ostracods, konhostraki, insects and fish. The remains of insects - two types of bugs-koriksid, caddis houses.

•The cut is quite different from the proximity of the location of the Gurvan-Eran (cm). Thickness pribortovyh psephites seems, has less power and is not replaced tonkosloychatymi profundal sediments and coastal sandstones. Sandstones, in general, occupy much larger role in the sediments Borough Nura. It is not clear whether they represent a reservoir sediments at depth and size or coastal sediments of the same body of water as the Gurvan-Eran.

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - large; shale and sandstone

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: mold/impression

Reposited in the PIN

• In 1977 and 1978. worked at the site of PEO SSMPE was conducted detailed mapping of the location and collected the remains of insects and other animals and plants. The results are set out in the monograph (Insects in the Early Cretaceous ..., 1986), in which a section on location made SM Tit.

•Only collected about 100 residues of insects (coll. PIN No. 3560).

•Location opened in '19 P. Hosbayarom in 1974 Paleoihtiologichesky squad SSMPE (VN Yakovlev) and in 1977, PEO SSMPE collected 77 insect debris (collection No. 3560). Location repeatedly described (Stratigrafiya. .., 1975), insects were first summarized in the article AG Ponomarenko and Y. Popov (1976), in more detail the location and collected the remains described in the book "Insects in the Early Cretaceous ecosystems of Western Mongolia" (1986)
