Khermeen Tsav I, Red Beds [PMPE] (Cretaceous to of Mongolia)

Also known as Polish-Mongolian Palaeontological Expedition, Khermin Tsav

Where: Omnogov, Mongolia (43.3° N, 99.8° E: paleocoordinates 40.3° N, 89.3° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Baruungoyot Formation, Middle Campanian to Middle Campanian (83.5 - 70.6 Ma)

• = "Khermeen Tsav Formation" = "Red Beds of Khermeen Tsav" = "Protoceratops horizon". Collection from two beds within the formation, close together near middle of section; cannot be separated based on reported sample.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: eolian; poorly lithified, tabular, concretionary, silty, calcareous sandstone

• vivid red, poorly cemented sandstone, with sandy concretions of variable size, small, white calcareous concretions occur. Some silt and clay intercalations. Cross-stratification is rare, but horizontally layered and massive beds are common. Common trace fossils - sediment-filled tubes - within the Red Beds.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by PMPE in 1970–1971

Collection methods: quarrying, surface (float), surface (in situ), mechanical,

• Many other taxa are present, but list includes Khermeen Tsav II localities and they cannot be reliably separated based on this paper.
