La Solana, L-D unit, sample A (Jurassic of Spain)

Where: Spain (38.4° N, 1.0° W: paleocoordinates 28.1° N, 8.7° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Stephanoceras humphriesianum ammonoid zone, Zegri Formation, Humphresianum (171.6 - 168.4 Ma)

• Assigned to the upper member of the Zegrí Formation by previous workers (Molina-Cámara 1987; Nieto 1997), also called "ammonitico rosso inferior" by Molina-

•Cámara (1987) or “L-D Unit: limestone with discontinuities of the Liassic-Dogger transition” by Tent-Manclús (2003). The age of the upper limit of the L-D unit containing the brachiopods was inferred from the finding of Skirroceras at the bottom of the overlying lithostratigraphic unit, indicating the Humphriesianum zone of the late early Bajocian. A poorly preserved fragment of Lissoceras sp. indet., attributable to the Bajocian, has been found together with the brachiopod fauna in "La Solana" outcrop. An isolated Stephanoceras sp. has been also recorded together with the Karadagithyris gerda assemblage in the northern side of the Sierra del Reclot, confirming the Lower Bajocian (Humphriesianum Zone) age.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lithified limestone

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Repository: Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alicante (Spain)
