Omnutakh River, about 35 km south of Norilsk (Silurian of Russian Federation)

Where: Siberia, Russian Federation (69.0° N, 88.2° E: paleocoordinates 14.9° N, 5.6° E)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: First Formation (Khyuktinsky Group), Sheinwoodian (433.4 - 430.5 Ma)

• "The base of the reefal unit is approximately on the Wenlockian-Llandoverian boundary"

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: limestone

• The Khyuktinsky suite may be broken into four subdivisions. The lowest is rich in stromatoporoids and corals and is about 2 m thick, but in one place rises to a cone 10 m high. It is overlain by a sequence of limestones and mudstones 55-60 m thick. The third unit is more a biostrome than a true reef and is 1.5-2.0 m thick. The youngest part of the sequence consists primarily of limestone containing some interbedded mudstone.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
