Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, black shale and unlithified, concretionary limestone

• In outcrops of the North Slope subterrane in northeastern Alaska, as at localities 3 and 4 (fig. 1), Monotis occurs in black, sooty shale and concretionary limestone at the top of the Shublik Formation and in the basal meter, or so, of the overlying Karen Creek Sandstone as described by Detterman

•and others (1975).
