• coordinate estimated from map

When: B. sp. A- C. nevegus zone, Yakhini Formation (Kurnub Group), Early/Lower Aptian (121.4 - 122.5 Ma)

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified sandstone

• Since the Late Jurassic, the Middle East has been under the influence of a tensional tectonic regime that resulted in normal faulting throughout the region (Freund et al., 1975). During the Jurassic and Cretaceous a depositional axis developed roughly parallel to the Israeli shoreline (Bein and Gvirztman, 1977; Gvirtzman and Klang, 1972). This "hingeline" formed the boundary between two types of marine environments. The area to the southeast of this boundary was a shallow, shelf environment in which clay and sand were deposited. To the northwest of the hingeline a deep water, slope-type environment existed, in which the percentage of marine carbonates and clays become more abundant.
