Also known as Zelkovice Formation, carbonate facies

Where: Czech Republic (50.0° N, 14.1° E: paleocoordinates 61.3° S, 67.6° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Demirastrites convolutus - Stimulograptus sedgwickii graptolite zone, Zelkovice Formation, Aeronian (440.8 - 438.5 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; calcareous shale and limestone

• "The discovery of carbonate facies in the upper parts of the Zelkovice Formation near Zelezna Village close to Beroun (Havlicek and Kriz 1973) changed previous views of Llandovery sedimentation in the basin. In the large tectonic block preserved within the zone of the Prague Fault the Llandovery is represented by basalts accompanied by granulates and overlain by calcareous tuffites. The youngest part of the block is formed by a sequence of tuffaceous and calcareous shales with tuffaceous laminated limestones, which contain a rick non-graptolite fauna of D. convolutus to M. sedwickii Biozones (Aeronian)..."

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Elements mentioned on p. 12 of Kriz (1992). This is almost certainly a subset of collection 14087.

Taxonomic list

• "Brachiopods, trilobites and dendroids have been described in addition to a large fauna of graptolites, crinoids and ostracodes. Most characteristic are: [list]" I.e., only the most characteristic elements are listed. It is not clear where the rest are described; the only paper cited is Havlicek and Kriz (1973), which I will check once it has come in from interlibray loan.
