Where: Santa Cruz, Argentina (51.0° S, 69.2° W: paleocoordinates 51.6° S, 63.5° W)
• coordinate stated in text
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Estancia La Costa Member (Santa Cruz Formation), Santacrucian (17.5 - 16.3 Ma)
• Dates from three levels in the lower one-third of the Santa Cruz fossiliferous beds at Monte Observación, rangebetween 16.42 Ma and 16.18 Ma and between 16.56 Ma and 16.28 Ma at Monte León. The dates are not wholly concordant but permit the assignment of the bulk of the coastal Santacrucian faunas to the late–early Miocene

•Kay et al 2008: This list will expand as previously collected specimens are prepared and with future collecting. At the moment, this faunal listfits within the Santacrucian SALMA (Marshall, 1976; Marshall et al., 1983).
• formation-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: terrestrial; green, silty, sandy claystone
•
•The Campo Barranca fossil level is composed of a silty
•clay, greenish in color. In places, the clay is finely lami- nated—some layers have ripple marks and others are car- bon-rich. Elsewhere, it is bioturbated, preserving calcified root casts, and has poorly defined bedding.
Size class: macrofossils
Collected in 2003-2009
