J41/f9603b - Landon Creek [Kokoamu Greensand] (Oligocene of New Zealand)

Where: New Zealand (45.0° S, 171.0° E: paleocoordinates 51.3° S, 174.5° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kokoamu Greensand Formation, Duntroonian (27.3 - 25.2 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, bioturbated, green sandstone

• The overlying Kokoamu Greensand is about 1 m thick (Fig. 2). The lower half of the greensand is intensely bioturbated and only sparsely fossiliferous. The upper 0.5 m section of the Kokoamu Greensand occupies the steep slope below an old farm track on the right bank and the upper part of a recess exposed on the left bank. This is the richly fossiliferous interval that yields the so-called Liothyrella landonensis fauna.
