STRI Loc. 290841 [quadrat A] - Yotoyoro [middle Castilletes Fm] (Miocene of Colombia)

Where: La Guajira, Colombia (11.9° N, 71.3° W: paleocoordinates 11.3° N, 68.6° W)

• coordinate based on unpublished field data

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: middle Castilletes Member (Castilletes Formation), Langhian (16.0 - 13.8 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Castilletes Formation, which conformably overlies the Jimol Formation (early Miocene) and is unconformably overlain by the Ware Formation. AGE: Langhian, on the basis of macrofaunal composition; direct age established by extrapolation of Sr-isotope dating by enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From middle member of Castilletes Fm; from 153 m above Jimol/Castilletes contact.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal; unlithified, shelly/skeletal siltstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Very shallow marine (0-15 m), siliciclastic.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Unconsolidated siltstone matrix. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, as determined in the field and based on museum-reposited specimens.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: original aragonite, original calcite

Taxonomic list

• COVERAGE: Exhaustive for mollusca, but a microfossil sample was collected and is not listed. NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication, but with modern nomenclature, and species-resolution identifications. ABUNDANCE: Estimate based on relative abundance within a 25cm2 quadrat; A=abundant (10 or more specimens per quadrat; C=common (3-9 specimens per quadrat; R=rare (1-2 specimens per quadrate).
