Where: Queensland, Australia (17.8° S, 146.1° E: paleocoordinates 17.8° S, 146.1° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Holocene (0.0 - 0.0 Ma)
• Radiocarbon dates indicate that the reef initiated on exposed ‘coffee rock’ outcrops ~ 5600 to 5900 cal yBP and then accreted rapidly to reach sea level (radiocarbon-dated corals indicating that a sequence of up to 3 m thick accreted in ~ 1000 years). Based on corals dated from the uppermost portion of the cores and microatoll dating, vertical reef accretion at King Reef appears to have ceased by ~ 4500 cal yBP
Environment/lithology: platform or shelf-margin reef; shelly/skeletal, muddy framestone
Size class: macrofossils
