Also known as Locality 1. 1 km west of the village of Fombuena. F4 locality (Peña del Tormo section) of Villas (1985)
Where: Zaragoza, Spain (41.1° N, 1.2° W: paleocoordinates 72.6° S, 84.0° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Svobodaina armoricana brachiopod zone, Huerva Member (Fombuena Formation), Berounian to Berounian (460.9 - 455.8 Ma)
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; lithified, argillaceous sandstone
Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
• During the deposition of this bed, the brachiopod shells did not suffer size sorting or fragmentation but were disarticulated. Trilobite exoskeletons and pelmatozoan calyces and columns also underwent disarticulation, and their remains occur beside abundant fragments of more fragile finely branched bryozoans. Despite this general disarticulation, deposition of the enclosing sand seems to have been very rapid, as the occurrence of complete crinoid crowns with finely branched arms suggests. Most fossil remains in this horizon, apart from the crinoid crowns, have probably been transported.
Preservation: cast
