Environment/lithology: marine; brown, gray shale and argillaceous limestone

• Tidal flat.
• Thinly bedded soft shale with occasional layers 6 inches thick and moderately hard, breaking in conchoidal fracture. Light grey to dark chocolate-brown on fresh surface. Bluish after weathering. Numerous thin layers of interbedded argillaceous limestone; shale and limestone grade horizontally and laterally into each other.
