Pan de Azucar, Gaiman (Eocene to of Argentina)

Where: Chubut, Argentina (43.3° S, 65.5° W: paleocoordinates 45.8° S, 55.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Sapoan mammal zone, Río Chico Group, Early/Lower Eocene to Early/Lower Eocene (55.8 - 37.2 Ma)

• Stratigraphic correlations of this locality are unclear. Tejedor et al. (2009: Am. Museum Novitates 3638) note that it shares taxa with the "Sapoan" SALMA/Paso del Sapo local fauna, but also taxa from the Itaboraian of Canadon Hondo. This suggests an Early to Middle Eocene date.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; sandstone

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
