When: Mealla Formation (Santa Bárbara Group), Selandian to Selandian (61.6 - 56.0 Ma)
• Late Danian-early Selandian based on Zimicz et al. (2020), but del Papa et al. (2022) provided an absolute date for the upper levels of the Mealla Fm., giving a U–Pb zircon age of 58 Ma. del Papa et al. (2022) proposed a temporal range of 61–57 Ma for the Mealla Fm.
•Mealla Formation, 43 m above the contact with the Yacoraite Formation.
•Originally identified as Riochican SALMA, Woodburne et al. (2014) considered Simpsonotus to come from the Itaboraian SALMA of early Eocene age. Originally identified as Riochican SALMA, Woodburne et al. (2014) listed Simpsonotus as from the Itaboraian SALMA of early Eocene age, but also noted that "The Mealla and Maíz Gordo formations are likely of pre-Itaboraian early and middle Paleocene age"
•Marquillas et al. (2011: Cenozoic Geology of the Central Andes of Argentina, 227-246) show the Mealla Formation as Middle to Late Paleocene.
