Cassianothalamia Association II (C-G II) (Triassic to of Italy)

Where: Italy (46.6° N, 12.2° E: paleocoordinates 11.5° N, 20.7° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Cassian Formation, Ladinian to Ladinian (242.0 - 228.0 Ma)

• Microbialite, Cassianothalamia zardinii, some ‘reef’ builders, hexactinellid and lithistid sponges, microencrusters

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal; mudstone and wackestone

• Cryptic or deep environments. Deep, low-energy setting, with sporadic episodes of moderate to high energy
• mudstone-wackestone infillings of the primary and secondary cavities mainly left by the microbialite and they are composed of micrite, peloid aggregates, scarce serpulid remains, and isolated uniserial foraminifers.

Size class: macrofossils
