Hongjingshao Formation, bed 24m (Cambrian of China)

Where: Yunnan, China (24.8° N, 102.8° E: paleocoordinates 36.6° N, 162.5° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Yunnanocephalus trilobite zone, Hongjingshao Formation, Early/Lower Cambrian (541.0 - 513.0 Ma)

• Cambrian Stage 3

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, silty, sandy sandstone and lithified, muddy, sandy mudstone

• Hongjingshao Formation is marked by the first appearance of thick-bedded coarse sandstones (Fig. 1c). At the Xiazhuang section, only the lower part of the Hongjingshao Formation, ~50 m-thick sandstone and siltstone intercalated by a few layers of yellowish mudstone, is exposed. The soft-bodied fossils are uncovered from these intercalated mudstone layers.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: soft parts
