• According to a supplemental note in Jordan (1927:13), the description of S. vertebralis was mistakenly based on a photograph of a goby from the Miocene of Vienna, Austria. Jordan stated that the specimen is not a goby and placed the Austrian specimen in the genus Sebastavus.
