G1626, Rometta (Pleistocene of Italy)

Where: Italy (38.2° N, 15.4° E: paleocoordinates 38.1° N, 15.3° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Gelasian (2.6 - 1.8 Ma)

• Above a clear break in the section and characterized by synsedimentary slumping. Said to be late Pliocene (but before reassignment of Gelasian to the Pleistocene). Clayey sands and bioclastic calcarenites at the base. Di Stefano et al. (2007) discuss sections in the Rometta area, describing three unconformity-bound packages R1 Piacenzian, R2 latest Gelasian-Calabrian, and R3 late Calabrian-early Ionian). The description of the section agrees most with the R2 unit (containing slumps)

• Lithified based on outcrop photo in Di Stefano et al. (2007).
