• Axelrod's Aldrich Station Fm. "Unit A6" is reassigned to the basal Coal Valley Fm. by Gilbert and Reynolds 1973
based on geochemical ash bed correlations of Perkins et al. 1998, the entire Coal Valley Fm. is superposed above the Esmeralda Fm. sites and I have merged the sections accordingly
unit dated by Evernden et al. 1964: KA 414 11.2 (= 11.50) Ma: near top of A6, 2000' W of Aldrich Station "at" V-4706 KA 482 10.5 and 11.2 (= 10.78 and 11.50) Ma: top of A6 "near" V-4707 KA 500 10.6 (= 10.88) Ma: top of A6, "east of" V-3939 "closely associated with mammals"; average of this and KA 482 is 11.05 Ma KA 552 11.0 (= 11.29) Ma: A6 below 482 and 500
first three samples are all probably the Ammonia Tanks ash of Perkins et al. 1998, dated at 11.57 +/- 0.05 Ma; this date seems the best to use for UCMP V-3939 and V-4706
