biotite from tuff near UCMP V-4707 and "200' above base of unit 1" dated at 10.8 (= 11.09) Ma by Evernden et al. 1964 (KA 551); this is the Coal Valley ash of Perkins et al. 1998, dated at 11.51 +/- 0.10 Ma by interpolation between Ar/Ar dates of 10.94 +/- 0.03 Ma and 11.57 +/- 0.05 Ma for ashes above and below it; date seems most applicable to localities from this lower level, i.e., UCMP V-4808 and V-5113
