Salmon-Table Head Road, Anticosti Island (Ordovician of Canada)

Where: Quebec, Canada (49.4° N, 62.2° W: paleocoordinates 22.6° S, 36.3° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Laframboise Member (Ellis Bay Formation), Hirnantian (445.2 - 443.4 Ma)

• Although the position of the Ellis Bay – Becscie formational boundary in relation to the end-Ordovician extinction horizon remains a topic of discussion (Copper et al. 2013), the stratigraphic position of the Laframboise reefs is certain. The Laframboise Member of the Ellis Bay Formation is from the uppermost Hirnantian, and the reefs are at or very close to the top of this member, thus immediately prior to the Ordovician−Silurian boundary.

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; lithified reef rocks

• stromatoporoid−coral−calcimicrobial reefs

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original calcite
