• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Orthograptus ruedemanni - Geniculograptus pygmaeus graptolite zone, Winterhouse Formation (Longpoint Group), Katian (453.0 - 445.2 Ma)

• Overlies Lourdes formation. Spans Orthograptus ruedemanni, Climacograptus spiniferus and Geniculograptus pygmaeus graptolite zones.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; shelly/skeletal limestone and silty shale

• Overall, the Winterhouse Formation represents deposition in a shallow marine, storm-dominated shelf environment (of source mixing type as per Mount, 1984), supplied by both siliciclastic (dominant) and carbonate sources. Significant alongstrike facies variations do not occur, and this, in combination with the limited paleocurrent evidence available, suggests that present-day strike is approximately parallel that of the paleoshoreline. In the lower part of the section, the carbonate facies appear distinct from the siliciclastic facies, but the apparently greater degree of mixing of carbonate material with siliciclastic material higher in the section may indicate gradual redistribution by storms of material from two sources which were initially independent. The presence of both conglomerate and sandstone packages at the same stratigraphic horizons suggests that the record of a major series of storm events may extend for several kilometres along strike, although its lithological signature may vary.
• Flexicalymene verecunda was collected from a bed of shelly limestone 2.5 cm thick. The section here is inverted and the fossiliferous limestone forms part of a poorly exposed sequence of flaggy siltstones and silty shales.
