When: Ardath Formation (La Jolla Group), Lutetian (47.8 - 41.3 Ma)

• lower middle Eocene age (Golz and Lillegraven, 1977; Geological Survey Research, 1980) and corresponds to the Eocene Penutian and Ulatisian stages of Mallory (1959) (Lohmar et al., 1979).

Environment/lithology: slope; gray siltstone

• The unit has been interpreted to have been deposited on the lower portion of a continental slope (Lohmar et al., 1979).
• dark gray, laminated and bioturbated siltstone overlying a dark gray massive siltstone
