When: Mission Valley Formation (Poway Group), Lutetian (47.8 - 41.3 Ma)
Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; poorly lithified, fine-grained sandstone
• The fossiliferous unit overlies what appears to be a terrestrial or near-shore deposit containing terrestrial snails.
• poorly indurated, fine-grained sandstone unit about 3 m thick
