Where: Los Angeles County, California (33.7° N, 118.3° W: paleocoordinates 33.7° N, 118.3° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• small collection-level geographic resolution
When: Timms Point Silt Formation, Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)
• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From "Timms Point beds", which locally overly Miocene shale. AGE: Pleistocene, following Clark (1931), but edited to middle Pleistocene by enterer on the basis of established modern age control. STRATIGRAPHIC DETAILS: Basal 2 ft of Bed No. 1 resting directly on Miocene shale. Foraminifera extremely abundant.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: offshore; unlithified siltstone
Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
Preservation: original aragonite, original calcite
Collected by A. Clark in 1929; reposited in the CIT, LACM
Collection methods: bulk, surface (float), surface (in situ),
• COLLECTOR: A. Clark, 1929. REPOSITORY: LACMIP, including former CIT collections.
Primary reference: A. Clark. 1931. The cool-water Timms Point Pleistocene horizon at San Pedro, California. Transactions of the San Diego Society of Natural History 7:25-42 [A. Hendy/A. Hendy]more details
Purpose of describing collection: paleoecologic analysis
