Tioriori, Chatham Islands (Paleocene to of New Zealand)

Where: New Zealand (43.7° S, 176.7° W: paleocoordinates 56.0° S, 145.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Tutuiri Greensand Formation, Teurian to Teurian (66.0 - 53.0 Ma)

• Basal Tutuiri Greensand can be correlated with Subzone A within the Hemiaulus incurvus Zone of Fourtanier (1991), which spans approximately the same time interval as dinoflagellate Zone NZDP7 (ca 60 to ca 59 Ma). This is consistent with the dinocyst assemblages from the basal Tutuiri Greensand that are correlated with NZDP7. Similarly, the diatom subzone is correlated with the lower part of radiolarian zone RP6, which is in good agreement with the radiolarian assemblages.
