Pantipampa, 72 m (Ordovician of Argentina)

Where: Argentina (22.8° S, 65.2° W: paleocoordinates 45.5° S, 128.5° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kainella meridionalis trilobite zone, Santa Rosita Formation, Tremadocian (485.4 - 477.7 Ma)

• Kainella meridionalis is in upper Cordylodus angulatus conodont zone

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, gray, silty sandstone

• Relatively rapid, episodic deposition superimposed upon the more continuous background sedimentation. These deposits are characteristic of muddy shelf areas and are interpreted as extremely distal members of storm sedimentation. Facies 2 is regarded as having been deposited below storm wave base.
• Gray, massive, very fine-grained silty sandstone in sharp-based, tabular beds 1–3 cm thick [Facies 2]

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
