•Channel is cutting down from a horizon within Unit 3, the claystone paleosol below the Cohn Coal, and shallowly eroding into the top of Unit 2. The channel body is 2.1–2.6 m thick at its deepest point and approximately 45 m wide—estimated perpendicular to the approximately N–S oriented channel margin
