Clathrodictyon Community, Lwr Klenova Fm., Novaya Zemlya (Silurian of Russian Federation)

Where: Russian Federation (71.0° N, 58.0° E: paleocoordinates 0.6° S, 0.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Lower Member (Klenova Formation), Sheinwoodian (433.4 - 430.5 Ma)

• Lower Klenova Formation.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; ooidal, peloidal, gray, yellow dolomite

• "[Set of three related communities, of which this is one] developed on an extensive, differentiated shoal in littoral-sublittoral environments subject to algal and carbonate ooze sedimentation. [For this community]: In situ burials resulting from disturbed, dense meadows of Clathrodictyon are present, which suggests turbulent conditions that are consistent with a high dominance, low diversity unit. Probably in BA 2-3 range, and is thought to represent a BA 2, offshore shoal."
• "Occurs as offshore shallows with pelloidal and oolitic sediments and local Clathrodictyon meadows. Rocks are whitish weathering, light-gray, slightly yellowish, eogenetic (massive, sparry) dolomites that locally preserve horizontal bedding."

Size class: macrofossils
