Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal, black, argillaceous, sandy limestone

• "Quiet water, level bottom communities that probably formed in some tens of meters water depth."
• "Occurs as commonly black, argillaceous, shelly limestone, which is uncommonly sandy (quartz). Banks are 0.1 to 3 m thick and a few to tens of m long. [Shells packed together parallel to substrate], with cement (argillaceous matrix) making up 40-50% of the rock."
