Sinostrophia-Discomyorthis Community, Kinsui, Lesser Khingan Mts. (Devonian of China)

Where: Heilongjiang, China (49.0° N, 126.0° E: paleocoordinates 39.7° N, 54.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Early/Lower Emsian (409.1 - 402.5 Ma)

• "Hamada (1971) favored Early Emsian age..His discussion suggests that this is the most likely assignment based on known ranges of the genera he recognized. It is unlikely that the age will be outside the Late Siegenian-Emsian range."

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; green, argillaceous, calcareous sandstone and sandstone

• "Typical BA 3 community...The size of the faunal list as well as the relative rarity of some of the shells, suggests that a few of the rarer taxa may have become admixed by current transport...Assemblages of this type normally repreesent relatively normal, level-bottom conditions within the BA 3 region."
• "Shells occur in a calcareous, argillaceous, medium- to fine-grained greenish sandstone, as largely disarticulated specimens." Hamada also mentiones white, massive, hard, medium-grained sandstone.

Collection methods: "Many slabs of fossiliferous sandstone" (Hamada). Table 20 of ref. 7183 (which includes specimen counts for brachiopods), taken from table 5 of Hamada (ref. 7190). Table 20 actually lumps two of Hamada's lists. I have kept Hamada's lists separate and have added other taxa mentioned by Hamada.
