Middle Sandstone Member z Kingscourt (Triassic of Ireland)

Where: Ireland (53.9° N, 6.8° W: paleocoordinates 16.0° N, 10.0° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Sandstone Member (Kingscourt Sandstone Formation), Griesbachian (251.9 - 250.5 Ma)

• Thickness 2-30m. This impersistent member is only known from a few boreholes.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray sandstone and shale

• It is characterized by parallel bedded grey-white fine sandstones, that die out to the west. Internal erosion planes and cross-laminae are present. In one core fragment composed of grey sandstone with some thin shaly intercalations, the latter have yielded a well-preserved palynological assemblage. Tintinnida, remains of Foraminifera, and the abundance of Acritarcha point to marine conditions.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original sporopollenin

Collection methods: core, chemical, mechanical,
