Lower Kaochaitien Fm at Luoshuichong, Mairang, Wudang, Guiyang, Guizhou Province (Silurian of China)

Where: Guizhou, China (26.6° N, 106.8° E: paleocoordinates 8.8° N, 126.1° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Lower Kaochaitien Formation, Telychian (438.5 - 433.4 Ma)

• Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. "The lithologic, regional, and paleontologic evidence suggests that a Late Llandovery age is most reasonable." Correlation chart indicates Telychian age.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray, green, calcareous siltstone and argillaceous limestone

• Correlation chart shows shelly-based BA2-3.
• "The beds...consist of gray-green, thin-bedded, calcareous siltstone, and argillaceous limestone, with a basal 1-m conglomerate resting unconformably on the early Late Ordovician Huanghuachong Fm. The fm. has a total thickness of 194.5 m."
