Awaynat Wanin type sect., Mrar Fmn., samples TB904-TB908 (Carboniferous of Libya)

Where: Libya (28.1° N, 13.0° E: paleocoordinates 36.3° S, 15.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Marar Formation, Tournaisian (358.9 - 346.7 Ma)

• Formation said to be upper Tournaisian, although there seems to be some uncertainty here. Samples from upper part of formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; silty shale and sandstone

• shells disarticulated, often broken; "moderate diversity of the brachiopod assemblage...the small size of the shells, and the high degree of fragmentation indicate a shallow subtidal zone of BA2 to shallow BA3, with normal current activity"
• Formation as a whole: "shales and silty shales interbedded with sandstones"

Collection methods: Focus of monograph is brachiopods and bivalves, but other elements are sometimes mentioned in passing.
