1880-III-B-2/13, Bir al Qasr Fmn., Ash Shati area, N. flank of Murzuk Basin (Devonian to of Libya)

Where: Libya (27.6° N, 12.6° E: paleocoordinates 52.1° S, 38.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Bi'r al Qasr Formation, Eifelian to Eifelian (393.3 - 382.7 Ma)

• Age range of formation is Eifelian to Givetian (ref. 8780). However, the bulk is Eifelian, and the Givetian age applies only to the uppermost beds. This sample is said to be from upper part of formation, but it's not clear from what authors say whether it is high enough up to be Givetian.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandstone and silty claystone

• ref. 8780: "The fossils shells are frequently crushed, indicating a high-energy environment"
• Formation in general: "In the typical development, the Formation begins with med-gr. sst, continues w/ silty clayst. b eing interbedded w/ sst., and is finished with sst." [ref. 8780]
