Oclese Sand (middle) (Miocene of the United States)

When: Middle Member (Oclese Formation), Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• The middle part of the Oclese Sand seems to be predominantly nonmarine. The marine portion of the formation is characterized by unconsolidated medium to very coarse cross-bedded tuffaceous sand containing pebbles and cobbles. Contacts with the upper and lower parts of the Oclese Sand are marked by pebble horizons. Maximum thickness of the formation is approximately 1400 ft. Grades laterally into siltstone of the underlying Freeman Silt and is overlain by the Round Mountain Silt.
