Alum Bay, Osborne Beds (Beds 72-75), Isle of Wight (Eocene of the United Kingdom)

Where: England, United Kingdom (50.7° N, 1.6° W: paleocoordinates 49.1° N, 5.5° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Osborne Beds Formation, Late/Upper Eocene (37.2 - 33.9 Ma)

• Prestwich calls these the "upper group" of the Headon Hill formation. The group seems to include all formations present, as they are all counted together, this collection includes beds 75-72 (numbered bottom to top). It is my opinion, based on comparison with several more recent papers, that these beds are actually part of the Osborne Beds (Bosma, 1974)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shelly/skeletal, green marl and argillaceous, conglomeratic, calcareous, carbonaceous sandstone

• marls and limestones, whitish sand and thin calcareous sandstone irregularly interstratified with a few hard conglomerates. About ten feet from the underlying clays occurs one foot of brown clay and imperfect lignite , and one foot of greenish marl with shells

Size class: macrofossils
