• The Maadi Formation varies in thickness, but is 64 m (131 ft) at Maadi. The base of the formation (this collection) is composed of brown sandy limestones, with shales and sandy shales in the upper part ("Ain Musa bed"). The Maadi Formation has been assigned an upper Eocene age.
