Whitecliff Bay, Barton Beds (Chama bed), Isle of Wight (Eocene of the United Kingdom)

Where: England, United Kingdom (50.7° N, 1.1° W: paleocoordinates 49.2° N, 5.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Upper Member (Barton Beds Formation), Late/Upper Eocene (37.2 - 33.9 Ma)

• I was unable to correlate this unit, which Gardner et al. call the Chama-bed with Prestwich either on the basis of fossils or lithology, it might correlate with bed 16 or 17, but I couldn't be sure.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; yellow sandstone and blue, sandy claystone

• Bluish sandy clay below a buff sand unit

Size class: macrofossils
