• 'The Honghe Formation comrpises the lowermost regional Cenozoic sediments.' 'Its principal lithologic characteristic is its interbedded purple-red mudstones, sandy mudstones, and fine sandstones with basal conglomerates. Exposures are approximately 200m thick.' The lower faunal level is approximately 20m above the basal gravels.
