NYSM locality 2065A3 (Ordovician of the United States)

Also known as Ruedemann's Beekmantown Formation, Valcour cephalopods

Where: Clinton County, New York (44.6° N, 73.4° W: paleocoordinates 30.2° S, 61.1° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Oepikodus communis - Reuterodontus andinus conodont zone, Sciota Member (Fort Cassin Formation), Cassinian (478.6 - 468.1 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified, calcareous, carbonaceous limestone

• The Sciota Member resembles the

•highstand systems tract of the carbonate-dominated members

•of the underlying Tribes Hill and Rochdale Formations. In all

•of these carbonate-dominated members, three lithofaciesbiofacies

•associations occur: 1) a lower, thin-bedded trilobiteand

•echinoderm hash-bearing interval with intraclast pebble

•conglomerates deposited under wave-dominated environments;

•2) a middle interval with massive thrombolites and

•mollusk-rich faunas; and 3) restricted marine deposits at the

•top of the formation (Landing et al., 1996, 2003; Kro¨ ger and

•Landing, 2007, 2008; Figs. 4, 5). The upward replacement of a

•trilobite- and echinoderm-dominated fauna by a mollusk-rich

•fauna within these highstand facies tract units is consistent

•with aggradation/shoaling into proximal, more restricted

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original aragonite, replaced with calcite
